R1: Summer

For our next blogs we have to compose a blog about what we love most about the end of the school year.  I have been looking forward to summer because of graduation and the beginning of college. I worked hard my whole school year and it will be nice to take a break from the books and relax. Another thing that I look forward to with school coming to an end is hanging out with friends.  During the school year I couldn’t really hang out with friends because of sports and studying.  I have been taking a lot of time throughout the school year to do projects and study for tests and quizzes. It will be nice to take a break from all the studying and just have fun.  Another thing I am most excited about the school year is not having to wake up early in the morning to get to school. I don’t have to worry about having to get to bed early to make sure I wake up in the morning.  During the school year I rarely got a good night of sleep so my day would drag along and usually I wouldn’t pay attention to any of my school work in class. I have been looking forward to the end of the school year mainly because I am a senior and I have spent 4 years in High school and I am ready to move on in life. I am looking forward to all the grad parties that I will be attending and having fun with my friends before everyone goes their separate ways. Sumner break is rapidly approaching and I am looking forward to it. I have been ready for summer for a while now and It is right around the corner.  Summer will be here in no time.

R3: Mr. Currin

For our next blogs I am going to express my feelings about a subject that I should have expressed earlier in my high school career. The topic for one of the blogs is Mr. Currin is a big deal true or false.  Wow what a tough question. I had to take a while just to absorb in this question. I knew Mr. Currin all four years of my high school grades. I also had Mr. Currin as a varsity football coach. My answer to the question is yes he is a big deal and no he is not a big deal. Let me start of by saying I had two classes with Mr. Currin. I enjoyed both classes for the most part. I had English class with Mr. Currin in 10^th grade. He really helped me out with all of my assignments and homework. He is a big deal because he helped me out in English and was the reason I passed. The other class I had with him was Online Publishing. I enjoyed this class because it really helped my writing ability. One reason he isn’t a big deal is because of my articles for the bulldog didn’t make the cut. This article was named “Month of May”. I really worked on this article because I wanted it to be special. It turns out according to Mr. Currin the article was so bad that it didn’t make the cut. He isn’t a big deal because I strived on this article putting my best effort in it and an end up it wasn’t good enough. However enough with the negatives because he can be a good guy. One positive is that he was a great football coach. He always worked 100 percent and he made practices fun.  Mr. Currin is sort of a big deal in certain ways.

Q1: Senior year

For our next blogs we were given the option to talk about anything we want. For this choice blog I am going to talk about this year’s school year. This year was a good year and I enjoyed most of my classes. I had a lot of fun this year and enjoyed most of my senior year. I liked that I had friends in most of my class. I really enjoyed senior year because my classes were easy and my teachers were nice and fun.  My favorite class would have to English. I have English 12 with Mrs. Schaefer. She is one of my favorite teachers because her classes are fun and you learn a lot. There is never a boring class because she always makes it fun.  Another class that I really liked was sociology with Mr. Cayea. I had 2 classes with Mr. Cayea and I really enjoyed both of them because he likes to have fun and his classes are never boring.  He is one teacher that I enjoyed and I actually paid attention in his classes. My two favorite teachers are Mr. Cayea and Mrs. Schaefer. Senior year I really cracked down and focused on grades.  At the beginning of the year I created a set of goals that I wanted to achieve senior year. Some of those goals that I created are to get better grades, attend class more, and pay attention in all of my classes. I look back at these goals and I feel like I achieved them. I got better grades this year because I paid attention more often and did all of my homework. I am happy with my effort this year because all of the hard work has paid off in the end. Overall, this senior year was my best year in high school.

Q3: Tuesdays With Morrie

For our next blogs we have to talk about our favorite book we have read in an English class. Well throughout my 12 years in school I have read many books that I loved and hated. I found that some books keep me into it wanting to read more then I found some books caught me dozing off out of boredom. One of my favorite books that I am going to talk about is Tuesdays With Morrie. This book was written by Mitch Albom. I have just finished reading this book with my class in 12^th grade. This has to be my favorite book I have read in all of my high school years because it kept my attention the whole time. I was actively involved in reading and I looked forward to reading it.  This story is about Mitch a sports analyze writer for a local newspaper. Mitch was flipping through the channels on his television one night when he saw someone he recognized. He realized that it was his old professor; Morrie. Mitch hasn’t talk to Morrie in 16 years. Morrie was diagnosed with a diease and everyone knew he didn’t have much life yet. Mitch wanted to reconnect with his professor so he went and visited him. Morrie was so happy to see him and each week on Tuesday Mitch would come visit Morrie. Each week they would talk about life. This has to be my favorite book I read because the meaning behind it. This story shows two people reconnecting and becoming best friends again. I like all the things that Morrie tells Mitch about life. This story kept me wanting to keep reading when we had to stop. I really recommended this book to people who haven’t read it before. This story was one of my favorite books I read in English.

Q2: Summer of 2012

For our next blogs we have to talk about our plans for summer. Well, with school coming to an end in a month I have a lot of plans for the summer. I am excited for summer mostly because it marks the end of High School for me. I spent my whole life working for this moment and I am excited to graduate.  I have a lot of plans for this summer. One thing I am doing over summer is working at Darien Lake Theme Park. This is going to be my fourth season and all four seasons I was food service. I am looking forward to starting work because I can make money and see a lot of people I haven’t saw since last season. Another plan for this summer is to get ready for college. This fall I will be attending classes at GCC.  I am taking up business for my major. I am looking forward to this because I am ready to move on in live and the first step is earning a degree.  This summer I want to spend as much time with my friends as possible. I want to enjoy my summer and have fun. One thing I am looking forward to is grad parties. I am planning on going to as many as possible and hang out with my friends. Another thing that I plan on doing over this summer is going to a lot of concerts. I want to go have fun with my friends and enjoy my summer.  For this summer I have many fun things planned. I am looking forward to this summer because it is the mark of something new as I graduated high school and move on in life. I believe I am well prepared for this summer and I am looking forward to it.

P3: Articles

For our next blogs we have to read an article and we have to write a response to it.  We were given the article called New York Teacher Ratings Renew Evaluation Debate written by Beth Fertig. After reading this article I found out a lot about teachers.  This article was all about teacher evaluations and whether or not they should loose there job if there kids test scores are low. The debate that is going on right now is whether or not a teacher should loose there if their student test scores are low. Teachers are fighting this because they don’t think they need evaluation because every student is different. I believe that teachers should be evaluated and I also do believe that they shouldn’t be evaluated for different reasons.  I think that teachers are getting paid to make sure that students get grades and they should be worried about their grades.  Teachers should be evaluated to see who is currently at the top and bottom. If a teacher is constantly at the bottom of teachers they should loose there job. I also feel like this evaluation is unfair because every student is different and teachers have different students.  However like I said before teachers are getting paid to do their job so I believe that this evaluation system will see improved grades. New York school districts have to change to the evaluation policy before next January. I believe New York state is worried about the students grades so this teacher evaluation will work I believe. This also gives teacher something extra to work for and to make sure they do the best that they can. I didn’t know about this system until I read this article and looked into it. I really enjoyed reading this article because I learned a lot of information.

P2: Goals

For our next blogs we have to look back at one of the first blogs we wrote that had us talk about what we hoped to accomplish this year in school. In this blog we have to talk about if we feel like we accomplished what our goals were. First of all, one of my goals for senior year was to do better in school. As I sit here one month left in school I believe that I accomplished doing better in school. My grades have improved since last year I noticed that I was doing better in all my classes. Another goal that I established at the beginning of the year was to attended school more often and pay attention in school. I look back at writing this and I believe that I really did do. I know that I missed less days of school this year than last year. I am paying more attention to my classes and listening to what my teachers are saying this year rather than last year. Another one of my goals that I planned out at the beginning of the year was to write better in English.  I look at my work that I did last year and I noticed an incredible change in my ability to write. I noticed that I was making less errors and I was explaining more. I also looked at the blogs I wrote in the beginning of the year and noticed that I am better writer now because I am making less mistakes and I am getting better grades. I am happy that I accomplished my goals that I established at the beginning of the year and I feel that I all the hard work I put in really paid off.  I am happy that I stuck with my goals and did what I said I was going to do.

P5: Life

For our next blogs we were given the choice to write about anything that we would like to talk about. I am going to write about what is going on in my life right now. I currently have one month left in High School then graduation. After graduation I will be attending College at GCC this fall. I am excited to move on in life. Another event that is happening is on May 4^th and it is prom. I am excited to go and have a great night that I will remember throughout my life. I am excited to see all my friends and have a great night that I won’t forget. Another event that is coming up is my 18^th birthday on May 6^th. I am excited for this day because I get to see family that I normally don’t see. I am also going to be starting working at Darien Lake May 5^th. This is going to be my 3^rd at Darien Lake.  I am excited to see people that I work with that I haven’t saw since the end of the season. I have currently been watching the NHL playoffs and the NBA playoffs. The team that I hope wins the Stanley cup would have to be Washington Capitals.  I hope any teams win the NBA championship except the Miami Heat. I can stand this team mostly because of number 6 LeBron James.  I can’t stand LeBron James ever since he left my favorite team; Cleveland Cavaliers. Right now my life is pretty busy with everything going on now. i find it hard to make time to do whatever I want because I am finishing up high school getting things ready for college, prom, and work.  I am prepared and ready for wherever life may take me.

p4: High School

For our next blogs we were given the choice in what we would like to talk about. I am going to talk about school. I am currently a senior at Alden High School. The days of my high school days are winding down. I only have a month left until I graduate and move on in life. I am both excited and sad to leave high school. I had so of the best times in my life during school and I am going to miss my friends the most. I am excited to leave high school because I want to move on in life and get started wherever life takes me.  I am ready to start college and earn a degree. I plan on going to GCC this fall to take up Business Administration.  I am ready to get a degree and find a good job that pays well and has good benefits.  I am sad to leave high school because I created a strong bond with my friends. I am used to seeing them every day and it is going to be sad as everyone leaves and goes their own way.  It’s sad knowing that after this month that I won’t be seeing most of these people again. I am sad to leave the people I cared about and hung out with. I am preparing myself for college and choosing my classes that I am going to take. I am ready to move on from High School as I begin my college years. I cannot wait to meet to people from different places and start new friendships. I have had so many memories created from high school that I know will last a lifetime. I have had my ups and downs in high school but overall I had the best times of my life.

P1: T.V

For our next blogs we were given the topic television to talk about.  We can talk about if we watch TV or not, our favorite show, and/or we can talk about the positives and negatives about television. I am going to start off by saying yes I do watch T.V.  My house has a total of 5 televisions throughout the home. In my room I have a 32 inch Samsung. I always watch television throughout the day and always watch T.V right before bed. I usually spend at least 2 hours watching T.V throughout the day. I watch many different shows and stations. My favorite channels would have to be ESPN, MTV, SPIKE, Discovery channel, and the History channel.  Some of my favorite shows would have to be Jersey Shore, Swamp People, American Guns, Man vs. Wild, deadliest catch, and Surviving the cut. I really like to watch a lot of the new shows because I know a lot of people watch them.  Television has a lot of positives and a lot of negatives with it. First of all, T.V has been viewed as positive because it is a source of mass media. You can pass on an important message to millions of people throughout the world. Another positive of television is that it gives millions of people jobs and T.V produces a lot of money. However there are negative impacts with television. One reason why television has been viewed as negative is because kids are watching too much television and it is affecting their ability to read. Kids are watching too much television instead of doing there school and the changes in their grades are noticeable. I really like television and I believe everyone should have one. Watching  T.V is perfect when you are bored  and have nothing to do.

01: CNN

For our next blogs we have to find an interesting current event article and we have to write about it. The different websites that we can use is CNN, ESPN, ABC, Fox, NPR, or Rolling Stones Magazine, etc. I have decided that I was going to do an article on CNN. I choice this website because I found that they have a lot of good articles to choice from. I wanted to do an article based on the space shuttle that is being retired. I choice an article named for 747, transporting a Shuttle Is No Heavy Burden.  This week a Boeing 747 carried the space shuttle on top of its plane on its way to retirement in a Washington Museum. NASA needed a way to carry the Space shuttle because a space shuttle cannot fly when it leaves orbit. The space shuttle weighed 488,000 pounds but the Boeing 747 can carry up to 800,000 lbs. it was a sight to see for people in Washington DC. When I saw the picture in the newspaper I was really shocked to see that because I didn’t expect to see a space shuttle on top of a huge plane. I wish I would have been able to see the shuttle on top of the plane because that is a once in a lifetime sight. However if you missed this you can see another space shuttle on its way to retirement. The Enterprise will be flown from Dulles International Airport in Virginia to its new home on board the USS Intrepid which is a retired aircraft carrier floating museum in New York City. I really enjoyed reading this article because it talks a lot about the space shuttle and the Boeing 747 that carried it to retirement. This was a successful mission and was a sight to see that thousands of people witnessed.

02: College

For our next blogs we have to read an article about college and we have to talk about it. We have to write our response based of this article and what we thought about it. We also have to write about our plans for after High School whether or not if we go to college.  I was shocked to find out how many people are living in poverty throughout the world. I find it crazy that a college graduate makes so much more money than someone who doesn’t finish high school. I found that the difference in income is 80% I liked how this article showed the difference in amount of money that you will make at each different college degree.  I have decided that after high school I am going to go to GCC for 2 years. I plan on going to get an associate degree in Business. I want to go to college because I want to earn a degree. I want one because it will be easier to find a good paying job with a lot of benefits. I plan on going for business because my sister went to GCC and took up business. I figure I will do the same as her because she could help me with all of the work. I have no idea where I want to work or what type of work that I want to do.  With all of the financial aid that I will receive it won’t be that much money for me to go to school.  I am really looking forward to graduating high school and moving on in life and go to college. I am excited to start college because I want to know what it is like and how different it is than high school. I believe that I will be well prepared for college.

03: Music

For our next blogs we have the choice to talk about anything we would like to write about. I am going to write about music. To me music is everything in my life and I am always listening to it. To me a life without music would be boring and dull. I like all different types of music but my favorite would have to be rap or hip hop. My favorite rapper would have to be Lil Wayne or Wiz Khalifa. Some other artists that I really like are Wale, Mac Miller, Drake, and Rick Ross.  Last year I went to Lil Wayne’s concert at Darien Lake Theme Park. Lil Wayne came with Far East Movement and Rick Ross.  I really enjoyed the concert because I had a lot of fun and the artist put on a great show. I went to many concerts before but my favorite was Lil Wayne. I am going to a concert April 28^th in Cortland. I am going to see Wiz Khalifa.  I am looking forward to this concert because I enjoy Wiz’s music and I know it will be a lot of fun. Another concert that I want to go to this year is June 8^th. Drake is coming to Darien Lake Theme Park along with Waka Flocka, Wale, and 2 chainz. I really want to get tickets to this concert because I really like all of them artists. Music has always been a huge part of my life because it puts me in a better mood. I am always listening to new songs and new artists. Throughout my life I been to many concerts of all different types of music but my favorite types of concerts would have to be rap concerts. Rap concerts are a lot of fun and they are way different than any other kind of music.

04: Parents

For our next blogs we have to write about our mothers or our fathers. We have to start off by saying my mother is/was or we can start of by saying my father is/was.  I am going to start off by saying my mom is my hero. My mom always makes sure I have everything I need and make sure I do the best I can do in everything I do. My mom always made sure I had everything I needed for school and she always made sure that I was ready for my day. My mom always puts me before her. My mom is someone I can always talk to and I am thankful to have a mother that cares as much as her. My mom always makes sure that I do 100 percent in everything I do and wants me to succeed in life as much as possible.  For the next part of the blog I am going to write about my father. My dad is someone I can look up to. My dad always makes sure I do everything with 100 percent. My dad has taught me a lot in my life and I am thankful that he taught me everything. My dad has always taught me right from wrong and he always makes sure I do what is right. I always look up to my dad because he has been very successful in life and he works hard to provide money to pay for everything. My dad is a hard worker and works a lot to make sure we have enough money to pay the bills. I am very thankful for the parents I have because I know they want the best for me and they provide me with everything I need in life to be successful.

n4: Trayvon Martin

For out next blogs we have to write an article about the boy that was just killed in a gated community in Florida.  We have to read an article about Trayvon Martin and the killer Zimmerman. The question about this case is whether or not this shooting was in shelf defense. The article we have to read is about a girl who can destroy Zimmerman’s claim that the shooting was in self-defense.  The lawyer told reporters that Martin was talking to his girlfriend shortly before he was shot and he said to his girlfriend that someone was following him and that he was trying to get away.  The girlfriend heard Martian ask someone why they were following him. After I heard that part of the article I was really shocked. I don’t believe anyone should ever be stalked and followed because it is a terrifying event. I could never imagine walking home and having someone following me. The girlfriend said that Trayvon was his regular self and she spent most of the day on the phone with him. Crump the lawyer for the Martian family said that Zimmerman wants to try and make you believe that he shot in self-defense. I do believe that anyone who commits a crime like this would try and make it seem like they didn’t do it or they did it in self-defense. I believe that just because it is a gated community doesn’t make it invisible to crime. Shootings happen every day throughout the world and this case is so big because it happened with an African American and it occurred in a gated community. I believe people need to realize that just because you live in a “safe” place doesn’t mean you are invisible to crime. After reading this article I believe there are more articles going around and more missing pieces to the puzzle.

n2 spring

For our next blogs we have to talk about spring. We can talk about what we like about spring or what we hate about it. I don’t really like spring that much because it rains a lot during this time of year. This blog is going to be hard to write about because I could care less about the seasons and most of all spring. Another thing I like about spring is that it is right after winter. I hate cold weather and I like spring because temperatures are starting to rise.  I like being able to walk outside with shorts and a t shirt. I am just in a better mood when the weather is warm and the sun is out. Another reason I really love spring is because it is in the month of my birthday. My birthday is in May.  Another reason I love spring is because of spring cleaning. I usually take the whole day and clean my whole house out. On the other hand I hate the season of spring because it rains a lot. I hate how it is constantly raining because it ruins a lot of plans and I have to cancel a lot of things. It is not nice having to work outside and getting wet. Another thing I hate about the season of spring is the flowers. I think flowers are for girls so I could care less about them. Each year I always look forward to the season of spring because the weather is starting to get warm instead of the cold harsh winters. I could finally wear shorts and t shirts. There is so much more things than you can do in spring rather than winter. The great thing about spring is outdoor activities that you can do whenever.

N1. Interview

For our next blogs we have to interview another member of the Bulldog and ask them 5 questions and then we have to write a blog about them.  I was given the member Madeline Koelbl. She is currently a senior at Alden High School. Her birthday is on July 12^th. Another question I asked her was what are here favorite activates were and why. She replied and she loved to go running, swimming, reading, playing piano, hanging out with friends, and being outside. She loved to do these things because she enjoys doing them and has fun doing it. The next question I asked her was what her favorite music was and who her favorite artist was. Her replied by saying that she enjoys the genre of Alternative and her favorite artist is The Black Keys.  My fourth question for Madeline was if she could go on vacation any in the world where she would go and why. She said she would go to Europe and backpack through all the countries for 20 days. She wants to do this because it would be fun and she would she a lot of things. She would want to see where it takes her and what different things you will see in the different countries. The final question I asked her was if she had a job and what does she do. She said she works as a lifeguard for Alden High School.  She said she saved some little kids in the water.  I really enjoyed doing this interview because I didn’t know a lot of things about her before this interview.  You meet new people when you do an interview on them. I think we should do another interview with another member of the bulldog because you get to meet new people and talk with them.

N3: Jobs

For our next blogs we have to write about where we work, where we would want to work, or our future jobs.  I started working when I was 15 years old at Darien Lake theme park. I started off working in catering department in food service. I worked there for one year then I was promoted to unit manager in Food Service. I worked in a stand called Jo’s Eatery. I made different kinds of food including hamburgers, cheese burgers, tacos, fries, nachos, and chicken fingers. I worked as a unit manager for the whole season and then the next season I got promoted to Area Supervisor. As an Area Supervisor I walk around and make sure the stands have everything they need. I am going on my 4^th year at Darien Lake. For the next park of this blog I am going to write about where I would want to work. I would want to work for a professional sports team.  Sports have always been a big part of my life and working in sports would make my job enjoyable.  The next portion of the blog we have to write about where we want to work in our future. I am going to college at GCC   for Business Administration. I would love to work as manager of a store or restaurant in the future. I know in the future I want to work for a company that I enjoy. I believe working in a company that I really enjoy would make it so much easier and would make my life more fun. I would love to work in the business department and a theme park. I believe that working hard now pays off and I could buy anything I want because I worked hard for it. I am going to be a multi- billionaire in the future.

b4: Embarrassing Moment

For our next blogs we were given the task to talk about our most embarrassing time in our lives. To me I don’t get embarrassed very often so this blog will most likely be a drag. Throughout my life I played many sports and I have had a few embarrassing times while playing sports. One sport I played the most of was hockey. Throughout my 14 years of playing hockey I have had a few embarrassing moments. One is when I was getting ready for one of my hockey games I always do the same routine when I get into the locker room.  One time I was getting ready and I forgot to put on my hockey pants before I put on my skates. I noticed after I had my skates tied so I had to untie them and do it all over again. Everyone in the locker room saw and noticed and they all laughed. Another one of my most embarrassing moments is also with hockey. I was in the locker room before a game waiting for the Zamboni to finish cleaning the ice. When the Zamboni finally finished I walked to the ice and started skating when I couldn’t stand or skate. I looked down and realized I never took of my skate guards. I felt really embarrassed because I forgot to take them off and I realized that everyone noticed. I don’t really get embarrassed much but some things that are embarrassing for me would be falling in a public place, falling down the stairs, spelling a word wrong, not having money to pay for something, and getting names wrong.  Whenever I am involved in an embarrassing moment I usually just laugh because I fell like that life is too short to stress.  Everyone gets embarrassed sometime in their life.

b3.texting and driving

For our next blogs we have to talk about a major problem in the world today and that is distracted driving. More and more people lose their life each and every day because of people not paying attention while driving. It is becoming more and more of a problem today mostly with younger drivers. Many lives can be saved if you just pay more attention to the road and nothing else. One of the most deadly ways of destructed driving is texting.  Some statistics that really caught my eye was that when you text and drive your reaction time is decreased by nearly 35 percent. Another fact is that when you are texting and driving your steering capability goes down by nearly 91 percent. Another scary statistic that really catches a reader’s eye is that you are 23 more times likely to get into an accident while texting and driving (textinganddrivingstatistics.com).  The real problem is the amount of people who text and drive is way too large and makes people wonders why there isn’t more fatal crashes. In 2007 AAA conducted a survey and found out that 41 percent of teens condone in risky driving and texting and driving. Many people lose their life to distracted driving each year so something needs to be done to stop innocent people from dying in fatal car crashes do to distracted drivers.  Texting and driving is also very hard to stop once you begin because you feel invincible and don’t think you would get in a crash. In most states there are laws banning people talking on their cell phones and texting. If someone breaks these laws they can be punished by a fine up to 500 dollars and/or jail time up to 90 days (textinganddrivingstatistics.com). I believe texting and driving is becoming out of control and if something is not done soon many innocent lives will be taken.
